We are delighted to announce the promotion of Alexia Mayer to Partner.
Alexia has over 17 years of IP litigation experience, including a strong knowledge of the Australian market. She joined James & Wells in 2019, after moving to Christchurch from Sydney, where she worked in the IP group at a leading international law firm, Allens.
Alexia is an experienced Australian and New Zealand intellectual property (IP) litigator. Her practice includes disputes relating to patent, trade mark and copyright infringement, breach of confidence, and misleading and deceptive conduct; patent and trade mark oppositions; IP commercial work; and pharmaceutical regulatory advice. Alexia advises clients in a wide range of industries, including medical devices, animal health, pharmaceuticals, mining, food and beverages, and IT.
Having previously acted for a broad range of clients at all stages of the litigation process in the Australian Federal and High Courts, Alexia’s experience both sides of the Tasman gives her a unique perspective.
She has helped lead the Christchurch office and works closely with our juniors to improve and grow their legal skills and confidence. Alexia is actively involved the Pathways to Partnership project and the firm’s diversity & inclusion and values projects.

Alexia is actively involved in the Intellectual Property Society of Australia & New Zealand (IPSANZ) and has been a member of IPSANZ’s Trans National Committee of Management since 2019. She is an accomplished presenter on IP issues, with notable speaking engagements including co-presenting at IPSANZ’s most recent conference. Alexia regularly writes on IP issues. She has been published in IPSANZ’s IP Forum and Oxford’s Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice.
