Award winning intellectual property law firm, James & Wells, is pleased to announce the promotion of litigation specialist Ben Cain to Partner.

James & Wells’ Managing Partner Tim Walden says: “We are delighted to have Ben join the James & Wells Partnership. Ben is well respected by his clients and peers thanks to his commercially astute, relevant advice. Ben is a sought after speaker and writer on intellectual property issues, particularly in the fields of trade marks, branding, and commercialisation.”

Ben is exceptional in that before becoming an IP lawyer, he had a successful career first in marketing in the UK and in New Zealand, working for several local and international brands, and then in-house with two well known brand agencies in New Zealand. This experience gives him invaluable insights into how best to advise and support brands and creative agencies, which in turn has driven Ben’s passion for advising on and resolving disputes concerning registered or common law trade mark rights, domain names, copyright rights, registered designs, fair trading issues and confidential information.

Ben says: “I am thrilled to be joining the James & Wells Partnership. The firm is at an exciting stage in its growth with ambitious plans for its future in New Zealand and Australia; I am looking forward to being part of those plans and contributing to the firm’s growth.”

Ben joined James & Wells in 2009. He has a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Hons), Bachelor of Arts (Special Hons), Master of Science in International Marketing and a Diploma in Professional Marketing. Ben is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, a Professional member of the Resolution Institute (Australia and New Zealand) and an Associate member of the Arbitrators and Mediators Institute of New Zealand.
