About Mike
Mike specialises in the electrical, electronics and software fields and has specialist knowledge of acquiring IP rights in the Asian market. He has a strong academic background having graduated with a first-class honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Canterbury University. He also worked in the local engineering sector for a few years before going on to train and become registered as a patent attorney in Christchurch.
As well as being an expert in drafting patent applications in the electrical, electronics and telecommunications fields, Mike has also been involved in numerous significant cases involving oppositions, patent litigation and license negotiations involving IP rights in China, Europe and the USA.
Mike served as a council member for the Asian Patent Attorneys Association Hong Kong Group for numerous years, and represented the Group in its submissions and feedback to the Hong Kong government in relation to the substantially revised patent law that came into force in 2019.
Mike has been consistently recognised in leading rankings for numerous years, including Managing Intellectual Property, IAM patent 1000 and Global Leaders.
Outside of work, Mike’s passions include sailing, skiing and road cycling. He has competed in numerous cycle races in New Zealand and Asia including the infamous Taiwan KOM challenge.
